Maverick

Maverick Sebastian is a HEMA practitioner with a focus on studying Spanish Destreza. He started having prior studied Arnis in high school, and began his journey with European martial arts, originally self-studying British military sabre. In late 2021 he started studying Merelo's Destreza del Sable under Joel Anajao as a part of Sala de Armas. There he fell in love with the technical and conceptual aspects of La Veradera Destreza. In addition to practice with Sala De Armas, he began extensive self-study of the texts of Destreza system fencing. Prominently, Merelo's sabre (which is what he studied under Sala de Armas) but also Merelo's Bayonet system and De Brea's system of smallsword. All of these belong to the wider tradition of La Veradera Destreza fencing. He is currently a freelance illustrator and a historical reenactor with the HVM reenactment group. He cross trains and spars with various martial arts groups, most often arnis groups, and currently resides in Quezon City.
